It is with honor and respect that I dedicate this piece on Mothers to the memory of my own Mother, who completed her earthly journey in February of this year.
As we honor Mothers this month, I encourage you to also recognize and honor all special women in your life, including Grandmothers, Aunts, Sisters, Friends, Teachers, Coworkers, and others. Take the opportunity to express your gratitude for the nurturing, care, and support that they offer you.
May you never lose your sense of wonder for those women who come into your life embodying unconditional love…who personify the potential of the human spirit…who hold space and listen without judgment…and who hold a vision for you…even when you couldn’t see it for yourself.
These are the women who stood by your side for a moment, a season, or a lifetime. They give generously of their time and are passionate about what they believe in. She may live next door, across town, or an airplane rides away. She may be your go-to person for advice on your children, your troubles, or your faith. She is the one who inspires you to exercise more, read more, play more, live more, and BE MORE. She may never have given birth…but at the foundation of her very being, she is a nurturer. She embodies the strength, wisdom, and joy of the Divine Feminine (Penache).
Let us be gentle with each other this Mother’s day, being mindful that, for many, Mother’s Day is hard. There are women who long to be Mothers and aren’t. There are men/women/boys/girls who are estranged from their Mothers. There are Mothers who have lost children. There are children who have lost their mothers. In these circumstances, extend the warm embrace of understanding and support as Mothers are honored everywhere.
